Mahendra Singh Dhoni, the iconic former captain of the Indian cricket team, has made a significant foray into the tech world by investing in Kuku, a Bengaluru-based platform revolutionizing storytelling through artificial intelligence.

The company announced the investment on March 30, highlighting Dhoni's dual role as both an investor and the brand ambassador for Kuku TV, its popular app focused on short-form microdramas.

This partnership comes at a time when digital entertainment is exploding in India, with audiences craving quick, engaging content in their native languages. Kuku's apps, including Kuku TV for visual stories, Kuku FM for audio narratives, and Guru for educational fun, have already amassed over 350 million installs, showcasing their massive appeal across the country.

Kuku's Rapid Rise and AI Innovation

Kuku stands out in the crowded digital space by leveraging AI to create personalized stories in more than seven languages, covering genres from drama to mythology and futuristic tales.

The platform boasts a vast library of over 20,000 titles, with several shows racking up more than 100 million views each, proving its resonance with diverse viewers.

Just last October, Kuku secured $85 million in a Series C funding round led by Granite Asia, which valued the startup at around $550 million. This infusion came from prominent investors like Vertex Growth Fund, Krafton, IFC, and others, signaling strong confidence in its model of "from Bharat, for Bharat, and for the world."

The founders, hailing from small towns, have built this empire with a focus on vernacular content, making high-quality entertainment accessible on mobile devices.

I chose to invest in Kuku, and also come on board as the ambassador for Kuku TV, because the platform really stood out to me. Kuku's leadership echoed this enthusiasm. Co-founder and CEO Lal Chand Bisu noted Dhoni's knack for bold choices, aligning perfectly with their risky innovations in AI content.

Co-founder and COO Vinod Kumar Meena praised Dhoni's nationwide appeal, calling him "Thala," a nickname beloved by fans.
